Effect of test anxiety on students
Education
is a process of change, intends to change in behavior and attitude of a child
so to see this change or we can state to quantify what has been taught we need
a tool which usually are tests or examination any tool can be used computer
based, pencil paper or it may be by project based. Likewise specified in
their investigation that at every level or stages of education test and
examinations are an important tool to evaluate accomplishment, aptitude and
capacities.
We
are living in the society where at a very young age our lives starting ruled by
the stress actually what
anxiety/stress is? Anxiety means nervousness, tension, or uneasiness
characterized by fear, dread, or uncertainty about something the source of
which is largely unknown or unrecognized by the individual. And when we come to our academic world very first thing students
are to be taught that their fates rely on the result of an examination which in
return create stress and anxiety among students. As indicated Students
consider exams as their worst nightmare as they
prepare so well for tests but when the test is presented, they find themselves
so nervous that blank out the answers to even the easiest questions. In their research also mentioned that in educational process, although the role of
examination is of great importance but some students suffer from fear of
examination which is called as test anxiety. For students’ fear of examination
psychologists use different terms like Examination Phobia, fear of exams,
anxiety etc
Nowadays, test anxiety is more observed among
students, and it might be due to more prominent role of tests in educational
system than some decades ago in their study mention so many causes which cause test anxiety like
comparison with peers, students don’t want to embarrass their parents and
teachers, sometimes they are not prepared well and at the end students live to
regret thinking that they have not study enough to perform well in test.
Students
of any fields having some level of anxiety like Pure science subjects have to
deal more with numerical values than the students of social science subjects.
Hence former may suffer from high anxiety than later. With the appearance of
new technologies, computerized testing has begun to be widespread and
implemented in large scale testing. The purpose of study was to find out the
difference in level of test anxiety among students of pure science, social
science, engineering and business administrative students. And to analyze the
difference between the anxiety levels using tools which is paper bases,
computerized and project based assessment.
